Thyristors

Fast switching Thyristor, for applications with frequencies higher than the domestic AC mains supply (e.g. 50 Hz or 60 Hz), Thyristors with lower values of tq are required. Fast Thyristors have optimized turn-off parameters and are designed for general power switching applications.

Phase control Thyristor has been the back-bone of the high power electronics industry since its introduction 60 years ago. Its field of application ranges from kW DC-drives and MW rated load commutated frequency converters to GW converters for HVDC transmission.

Due to the growing demand for energy efficiency, the Thyristor remains at the heart of much of the equipment needed for energy transmission and distribution, as it allows the best performance in terms of cost, reliability and efficiency.

IGBTs

An indispensable device for the application of inverters to all industrial equipment, the IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) module has driven the trend towards high currents and high voltage for the last 20 years since it was developed and produced. The module has evolved from the traditional flat planar chip structure towards the trench gate structure.

Thyristor Modules

The Thyristor module turns on by applying a pulse current to a gate current.

However, because it is a latch type semiconductor, the Thyristor only turns on when a sustained current (holding current) reaches a set level.

To turn off in a DC circuit, the gate current must be reduced below the holding current or reverse voltage has to be applied using a commutation circuit. In an AC circuit, the pulse current has to be applied to the gate current whenever it is positive, because the gate current falls below the holding current and the Thyristor turns off whenever the current alternates.

Diode Modules

We offer general rectifying diode modules that rectify commercial frequencies and high frequency diode modules for freewheel diodes in inverter circuits and for high-speed switching on a surge voltage absorbing circuit (snubber).

The main switching devices of an inverter have changed from bipolar transistors to high-speed MOS gate devices, such as IGBT. The requirements of radio noise regulations have also increased the importance of not just reverse recovery characteristics, but also software recovery characteristics.
